About the Race

The “Trophée des Rois” (Trophy of Kings), founded in 1992 by the members of the ESSEC’s Rowing Team, remains to date the only rowing competition entirely organized by students. This regatta takes place each year at the end of the university season, between at the end of May and at the beginning of June. Once the Championships of France passed, oarsmen and oarswomen are at the top of their form to offer spectators races of very high level. The competition to claim the Trophy can be hard but it always occurs in a sporting spirit and fairplay. The characteristic of the “Trophée des Rois” lies within the framework of exception: the Grand Canal of the famous “Château de Versailles”, symbol of the French cultural heritage.

University competition above all, the “Trophée des Rois” accommodates each year the crews of best French undergraduate and graduate schools but also of prestigious international crews. This competition is also given for mission of promoting the female oar, unfortunately under-represented in university rowing. Our Trophy thus rewards the school having carried out the best performances with their men’s and women’s crew.
